The Spanish version of ‘Survivor’
Leo Margets is all set to feature in the ninth season of the reality show SuperVivientes, which is Spain’s version of the widely renowned American Survivor series.
SuperVivientes dubbed as the Spanish Survivor has been broadcasted on channel Telecinco since the year 2000 under different names. It began as Superviviente : Expedicion Robinson in the year 2000 which was totally based on the American Survivor series, but named after the original Swedish series “Expedition Robinson”. It went by the name of La isla de los FamoS.O.S between 2003 to 2004, as the format of the show was changed to include celebrities as it resembled the high drama American reality chow Big Brother. After being christened Aventura en África in 2005 it was renamed SuperVivientes in 2006 and has retained that name ever since.
SuperVivientes 2014 will see the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister Bibiana Fernández, Aran Aznar, who is the nephew of former Spanish prime minister José María Aznar, model Viviana Figueredo and writer cum stylist Ignacio “Nacho” Montes as its celebrity contestants. Jorge Javier Vázquez will be the main host at the helm in the central studios based in Madrid while Raquel Sánchez Silva will be seen co-hosting the event from the scenic island of Honduras.
Supervivientes initially followed the same rules and format as that of its American counterpart. The subsequent versions of the real time survival drama have followed a different set of rules that has a public vote, nominations and evictions while the winner is chosen by a public vote.
Poker pros featured on Survivor
The reality game show “Survivor” was first premiered in the year 2000 on CBS. Since then it has caught the fancy of viewers worldwide as celebrity contestants from different fields are chosen every year to participate in it. It is hosted by Jeff Probst who is also the executive producer of the show.
The US version of the Survivor series follows the same format as that of the Swedish series Expedition Robinson from which it has been derived. A group of 16 or more players is taken to a remote tropical island where they are split into different teams known as “Tribes”. The teams are then left to survive on meager rations while performing physical challenges that earn them rewards, food or immunity from being ousted. Tribal Councils are held to vote out players as the numbers are reduced to two or three towards the end of the show. The final trio vying for the prize money of $1 million and the title of the “Sole Survivor” has to plead their case before a jury that decides their fate in the show.
The Survivor series has seen a number of modifications and twists being introduced in the subsequent seasons to prevent players from plotting by observing the previous segments. This has not been a detriment for Poker players from trying a hand at being the “Sole Survivor”. Jean-Robert Bellande was the first Poker Pro to feature on Survivor : China where he became the 2nd jury member after being voted out in 8th position. More recently Garrett Adelstein, the 27 year old Los Angeles based Poker champion tried his luck in the 28th Season of Survivor on the islands of Cagayan in Phillipines. A poker pro who specializes in 6-Max cash games found it a tough terrain to master as he got ousted early from the show. Adelstein had claimed to have prepared ardently for the reality series by devoting 2,000 hours to special training. A few strategic blunders, lots of hostile adversaries and a surprisingly new format that had three teams instead of the usual two had Adelstein packing his bags early on.
